This workshop explores approaches to assessment in inquiry-based learning environments, specifically tailored for K-5 classrooms with multilingual learners. Participants examine strategies for authentic assessment, formative feedback, and student reflection that align with the principles of inquiry-based learning. They design assessment practices that support and enhance authentic inquiry and agency.

Participants will gain an understanding of the purpose and principles of assessment in inquiry-based learning environments, recognizing the importance of aligning assessment practices with the goals of inquiry-driven instruction and promoting student agency and reflection. -
Explore strategies to use authentic assessment and formative feedback:
Teachers will explore a variety of assessment techniques and tools for collecting student evidence of learning. They will explore the role of formative and summative assessment, as well as culminations of learning. -
Design assessment through a lens of inquiry and agency:
Participants will learn to design assessment tasks and criteria that align with the principles of inquiry-based learning, fostering student engagement, critical thinking, and agency. They will leave the workshop with practical strategies to assess student learning while promoting a culture of self-reflection and agency.
